DaVinci Resolve Plugin

Straight verticals for your architecture videos

Draw two guide lines along the edges of the building, right in the DaVinci Resolve viewer, and the perspective straightens itself. The same gesture as in Lightroom, now for video.

The problem

In video, converging verticals are a chore to fix

In architectural photography, you never deliver a building with converging verticals. One tool in Lightroom and it is done. In video, the same correction means juggling corner pins and transform sliders, by eye, shot after shot.

PerspectiveDrift brings the photographer's gesture to DaVinci Resolve. You point at two edges that should be vertical. The plugin does the math.

Features

Everything you need to straighten a building

Two guide lines

Trace two lines along vertical edges, directly in the viewer. The correction applies as soon as the second line is done.

Horizontal lines too

Add two optional horizontal guides to also correct horizontal convergence on facades and interiors.

Automatic crop

Zooms just enough to remove the empty corners. A manual zoom is there when you want a tighter frame.

True proportions

Enter the 35 mm equivalent focal length and the building keeps its real proportions after correction.

Precision loupe

A loupe follows your pointer so each guide point lands exactly on the edge, even on 4K drone footage.

GPU accelerated

Rendered on the graphics card with Metal, on Apple Silicon and Intel Macs. Real-time playback on the Color page.

How it works

Three steps to straight verticals

1

Add the effect

On the Color page, open Effects, then Open FX, Drift and Grain, and drop PerspectiveDrift on a node.

2

Draw two lines

Set the viewer to Open FX Overlay mode and click along two edges of the building that should be vertical.

3

Done

The perspective straightens and the frame is cropped automatically. Adjust zoom and focal length if needed.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How do I fix converging verticals in DaVinci Resolve?

Apply PerspectiveDrift to a node on the Color page, switch the viewer to Open FX Overlay mode, and draw two guide lines along edges of the building that should be vertical. The plugin computes the perspective correction and applies it to the whole clip.

Which versions of DaVinci Resolve are supported?

PerspectiveDrift is an OpenFX plugin, developed and tested with DaVinci Resolve Studio 21 on macOS, including the Mac App Store version. It has not been tested with the free version of Resolve yet.

Is there a Windows version?

No. PerspectiveDrift is Mac only: macOS 11 or later, on Apple Silicon and Intel Macs.

How do I install it?

Double-click the installer, then restart DaVinci Resolve. The plugin appears on the Color page under Effects, Open FX, Drift and Grain. The installer is signed and notarized by Apple, so macOS opens it without any warning.

Does it work with drone footage?

Yes, that is what it was built for. Set the 35 mm equivalent focal length of your drone camera (28 mm for the main camera of the DJI Mavic 4 Pro) and the building keeps its true proportions after correction.

Will my corrections follow a moving shot?

The correction is the same for the whole clip. It works best on locked-off shots and on slow, steady drone moves where the perspective stays constant, which is the usual case in architecture films.
